Endometrial ablation
This procedure is designed for women who are not keen on, or have contra-indications to medical therapy or where medical therapy has failed, in the treatment of menorrhagia.
The general success rate of endometrial ablation is rather high, at about 80%. One may say that one half of these 80% will have no bleeding while another half will have significant reduction in bleeding.
Various methods can be used to perform endometrial ablation, with currently the microwave ablation (MEA) or the Novasure being the most popular, easiest to perform and having the least complications.
Hysteroscopic myomectomy
When a patient has submucosal fibroids in the uterus, some of these fibroids may be able to be removed with a hysteroscope.
In the case of these fibroids being the cause of noticed heavy bleeding, the reduction in bleeding will be remarkable. |
